Celebrity hairstyling and makeup have become far more than just glamorous add-ons in modern cinema. As films increasingly lean into realism while still balancing mainstream appeal, beauty artists are now deeply involved in shaping how characters move, feel, and connect with audiences onscreen. Celebrity stylist Natasha of Hair Garage by Natasha, who has frequently collaborated with actor Disha Patani, recently opened up about crafting the actor’s rustic-glam appearance for O’Romeo and explained how hairstyling often becomes an extension of performance itself.

EXCLUSIVE: Celebrity stylist Natasha reveals how Disha Patani’s O’Romeo look was designed to “Dance with her”
Speaking about Disha Patani’s look in the film’s song sequence, the stylist revealed that the team consciously avoided overly polished glamour in order to stay true to the character’s world and the film’s 90s-inspired setting. “The thing is, also, she’s not supposed to be… this was also set in the 90s and things like that, so we didn’t… There was supposed to be some amount of glam, but it was not supposed to be like blow dried,” the stylist shared.
Instead of creating a hairstyle that stood apart visually, the approach focused on making the hair feel organic to the character and choreography. “It was supposed to be a lot more like item number type dance,” the stylist explained, adding that loose waves were intentionally chosen because “it would have danced along with her.” The stylist further emphasized that hair in cinema should never overpower the performer or distract from the character’s emotional presence. “It needed to flow with her, rather than being an entity of its own,” they said. “Everything needs to be a part of her.”
That philosophy, according to the stylist, plays a major role while designing looks for films. Unlike editorials or red-carpet appearances, cinematic styling requires understanding the script, costumes, character arcs, and the director’s larger vision before arriving at the final look. “When you’re doing films, it’s such a tiny part of such a large project,” the stylist explained. “You’re just assisting, or you’re a part of something big for everyone.”
Reflecting on the larger evolution of Bollywood beauty aesthetics, the stylist noted that changing camera technology has significantly influenced makeup and hairstyling trends over the years. With ultra-HD visuals capturing every detail onscreen, beauty in cinema has gradually moved toward realism and cleaner aesthetics. “Everything is too real now,” the stylist observed. “You are literally touching them on screen.”
At the same time, they acknowledged that commercial cinema still leaves room for heightened glamour and stylized beauty moments. “You do have those moments, and you’re like, ‘It’s okay, cry, but you know, just the mascara should run,’” they joked.
The stylist also pointed out how contemporary films, especially stories rooted in rural India or hyper-realistic settings, demand a far more restrained approach to beauty than traditional Bollywood spectacles once did.
“I feel like currently, if things are being made contemporary, everything’s a lot more cleaner,” they explained, adding that styling today is increasingly becoming “true to character.”
Discussing the difference between films and fashion editorials, the stylist said that movies require extensive preparation and collaborative planning with costume designers, directors, and actors long before cameras begin rolling. “In terms of film, you sit down, you read the whole script, you break down, understand the character,” they said. “Everybody needs to be on the same page, otherwise it will show.”
Even amid evolving trends, the stylist believes the emotional impact of cinema remains timeless. Referencing iconic film characters that stay with audiences for years, they said beauty and styling choices often become a lasting part of cinematic memory. “My intention for every time I’ve done a film… is I put in a lot of unconditional love in it,” the stylist shared. “When it reaches people, it just multiplies.”
