The Game of Thrones universe is expanding once again – with a major update for the first feature film set in Westeros.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, Warner Bros gave a presentation for what lies ahead and confirmed a movie based in the world of Game of Thrones.
The film, announced earlier this month, follows the life of the legendary Aegon I Targaryen, is now under the working title “Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest”.
As part of the slate, it was noted the film will arrive in “2027 and Beyond”, and will be written by Beau Willimon, whose previous credits include Star Wars series Andor and Netflix’s House of Cards. He also serves as a producer on season 2 of Apple TV’s Severance.
Aegon I Targaryen is particularly notable in Westerosi history, as he was the ruler to merge the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros.
He is also the creator of the now iconic Iron Throne, forging the emblematic seat from the swords of his fallen enemies, creating an emblem which generations after him would fight for and defend, and set the bar for the family’s incestuous legacy, marrying two of his sisters.

Originally written by George RR Martin, Aegon’s Conquest was first part of the novel Fire and Blood, which recounted tales of House Targaryen’s royal dynasty.
Fire and Blood functions almost as a history book, written by Archmaester Gyldayn to document the formation of the Seven Kingdoms and key moments in Westerosi history.
The book also contains the story that formed the basis of another Game of Thrones show, House of the Dragon, which follows the Dance of Dragons civil war between Aegon II Targaryen and Rhaenyra Targaryen as they fought over the Iron Throne.
House of the Dragon’s third season will be released in June, and will set the stage for the final battle between the siblings and their armies. The show is set to end with season four.
Aegon’s Conquest joins an ever-expanding slate in the Game of Thrones world, based on the books created by George RR Martin.

The original Game of Thrones series ran from 2011 to 2019, with House of the Dragon launching in 2021.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on the short stories of knight and squire Dunk and Egg, launched in January this year, and has already been confirmed for a second season, which will be released in 2027.
The Mad King, a story about King Aerys II Targaryen, is also being adapted for the stage by Martin, in association with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Written by Duncan Macmillan, The Mad King is set 10 years before the events of Game of Thrones – with the titular ruler the father of Game of Thrones character, Daenerys Targaryen. It will arrive on stage later this year.
House of the Dragon season 3 will arrive on HBO Max in June. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Sky and NOW, along with Game of Thrones and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – find out more about how to sign up for Sky TV.
