The recently released trailer of Governor has drawn attention for its portrayal of a crucial phase in India’s economic history. Produced under the banner of Sunshine Pictures and directed by Chinmay Mandlekar, the film stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role alongside Adah Sharma.

Manoj Bajpayee says he was “scared and nervous” about getting the dialect right in Governor
Based on true events, Governor explores the economic challenges and financial uncertainty that shaped India during the 1990s. While the story focuses on a significant chapter from the country’s past, Bajpayee has revealed that one of his key concerns while preparing for the role was ensuring that the character’s language and diction felt authentic.
Speaking about his preparation, the National Award-winning actor admitted that he approached the task with caution. “I was very scared and nervous because actors, especially people like me, I don’t like to go wrong with language and diction. I am from Bihar. So, I know how much I get offended (with language being wrongly spoken),” Bajpayee said.
The actor explained that while authenticity is important, there is also a need to strike a balance so that audiences from different regions can connect with the film. “So, it is better to go to the minimum, I always say because you are making it in Hindi. You need to play up the essence of that language. However, you are not supposed to be completely indulgent about the accent because it will take away the attention from the matter,” he added.
Bajpayee further noted that the team consciously tried to preserve the cultural flavour associated with the character’s background without allowing the dialect to overshadow the narrative. “That is why we have tried to keep a lot of measured things in this, the culture behind the language,” he said.
The film is set against the backdrop of economic turbulence and follows events connected to a period of financial instability in the country. The trailer hints at themes of governance, decision-making and institutional challenges, with Bajpayee playing a central figure navigating the crisis.
Governor is directed by Chinmay Mandlekar and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with Aashin A. Shah serving as co-producer. The screenplay has been written by Suvendu Bhattacharyjee, Saurabh Bharat, Ravi Asrani and Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The film also features music by Amit Trivedi and lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Starring Manoj Bajpayee and Adah Sharma, Governor is scheduled to release in theatres on June 12, 2026.
