It was confirmed earlier this month that NCIS veteran Michael Weatherly would be returning to the hit show as his iconic character Tony DiNozzo for a season-long arc. Well now, we finally have some extra details about what will unfold in the show’s upcoming 24th season.

Speaking at a fan convention in London last weekend, Weatherly revealed (via TVLine): “I just know that it’s going to be an exciting return. I have really enjoyed watching what the show has done over the last 10 years since I left, but it’s a different show now.
“So I’m very much about respecting the show I’m coming into and being aware that they’ve built an extraordinarily successful tenure… but that doesn’t mean that what we did isn’t going to be able to live alongside and inside that show.”

Weatherly was more recently seen heading up NCIS spin-off series, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. But sadly, that Paramount+ series drew to a close having been cancelled after season 1. The series saw Weatherly’s DiNozzo and Cote de Pablo’s Ziva reunite in Paris to co-parent their daughter, Tali, with the pair also getting wrapped up in international threats.
Well, it turns out that the events of that spin-off series will also feed into the new instalment of NCIS. “I can tell you this: There is a definite connection between [Tony & Ziva] and the canon that that created… There’s not going to be retconning of, like, oh, ‘Tony & Ziva’ never happened,” Weatherly teased.

NCIS season 24 is expected to land on US screens later this year, with the franchise continuing to go from strength to strength as NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney have both been renewed and NCIS: New York is starting to take exciting shape.
It was more recently announced that Flashdance icon Jennifer Beals would be joining the New York-based series alongside 13 Reasons Why star Devin Druid and Power Book IV: Force’s Shane Harper.
They’ll be joining LL Cool J and Scott Caan with the synopsis for the new series reading: “Legendary NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) returns to his hometown of New York City to the NCIS field office, partnering with a roguish agent (Caan) and helping lead a new team as they are tasked with high-stakes missions to defend one of the most vital cities and ports in the world.”
