Aidan Quinn recently revealed why he didn’t reprise his role as Gary in Practical Magic 2, as fans wondered about his absence following the latest teaser trailer reveal. The footage takes viewers back to the world of Massachusetts witchcraft. Sandra Bullock’s Sally is seen navigating life with her daughters, while Nicole Kidman’s Gillian Owens appears to be leading a peaceful life with a cat. In a red carpet conversation posted by SPIN 1038, an Irish radio station, Quinn was asked whether he would return to play Gary in Practical Magic 2. He played the state investigator, who suspected Gillian of Jimmy’s disappearance in the 1998 movie. Answering the question, the actor said, “No, I wasn’t asked. I would have said yes, but I wasn’t asked.”
The interviewer then asked him what his response would be if he were asked to reprise his role for the upcoming sequel. Quinn went on to express his openness to returning for the upcoming outing.
The interviewer further joked that they should speak about his casting to Nicole Kidman. However, Quinn stated, “Well, I think it’s already been done.” He then shared his experience of working with the cast in the 1998 movie, and added, “Oh, yeah, lovely, lovely. They were both great to work with. Most of my stuff was with Sandy, but they were both phenomenal to work with. Yeah, we had a good time.”
This interview comes amid Practical Magic 2’s latest teaser trailer release, after its launch at CinemaCon, which showcases the return of the Owens family.
The cast includes Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest, Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. The movie is set to come out in theaters in September 2026.
