Ranbir Kapoor has opened up about the profound impact that Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has had on his personal life, describing the project as “life-defining” rather than merely a significant milestone in his acting career. The actor, who essays the role of Lord Rama in the much-anticipated mythological epic, revealed that his journey with the film transformed his outlook on life, values, and even fatherhood.

In a recent interview with Top Magazine, Ranbir reflected on the experience of preparing for and portraying one of the most revered figures in Indian culture. “I understood not that it would be something like a career-defining move for me, but it was definitely life-defining, you know, it changed my life. It got me closer to understanding the Ramayana, to understanding Lord Rama’s journey. I think it made so many positive changes in my life. You know, my bad habits changed, it changed my value system, the way I look at life, the way I look at loss, the way I look at sacrifice, the way I look at Dharma, and I think I really needed that in my life,” Ranbir said.

The actor also spoke about how the film coincided with another major chapter in his life: becoming a father. Ranbir and his wife, Alia Bhatt, welcomed their daughter Raha in November 2022, and he believes the two experiences became deeply intertwined. Speaking of the same, Ranbir shared, “It was such a sweet coincidence in my life. Raha made me a better person, and Ramayana wanted me to be a better person for Raha, so everything was connected.”

He further described the opportunity to be part of the project as a blessing, particularly because of the scale and ambition with which the story is being brought to the screen. “I was at the right place at the right time when a film of this magnitude was being made on our truth, on our culture, on our history in the most authentic way. It was just a blessing and I’m going to be grateful for all my life,” he added.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana is being mounted as a two-part cinematic event and is widely regarded as one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken in Indian cinema. The film features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Ravana. Ravi Dubey will be seen playing Lakshman, among several other actors in key roles. The first installment is scheduled to release a week before Diwali 2026, while the second part is expected to arrive in theatres during Diwali 2027.
