Actress Raveena Tandon has shared her thoughts on the ongoing discussions surrounding Punjab’s stray dog removal campaign, urging authorities to adopt a compassionate and balanced approach while addressing public safety concerns. Taking to social media, the actor posted a detailed note addressed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stressing the importance of humane animal welfare measures.

Raveena Tandon reacts to Punjab’s stray dog removal drive; urges CM Bhagwant Mann to ensure ‘humane and balanced’ action
Raveena’s post comes days after the Punjab government announced a large-scale campaign to remove stray dogs from crowded public areas following a recent Supreme Court verdict. The state administration had stated that the move was aimed at improving public safety in high-footfall spaces such as parks, schools, markets, and religious places.
Reacting to the development, Raveena wrote, “Honourable CM Bhagwant Mann ji, The recent observations around the Supreme Court verdict on stray animal management have sparked important conversations across the country. While public safety is extremely important, I sincerely hope the interpretation and implementation of the verdict continues to remain humane and balanced.”
The actress further highlighted the need for long-term and compassionate solutions instead of extreme action. “Compassionate solutions such as sterilisation, vaccination, proper shelters and structured rehabilitation can help protect both citizens and animals,” she added.
In her message, Raveena also expressed hope that Punjab could set an example in handling the issue responsibly by involving experts and welfare organisations in the process. “I truly believe that with the support of authorities, animal welfare organisations and experts, Punjab can set an example of handling this sensitive issue with both responsibility and kindness. How we treat the voiceless ultimately reflects who we are as a society,” the actress stated.
The issue has triggered widespread conversations online, with several public figures and animal welfare supporters voicing concerns over the treatment of stray animals during the campaign. The Punjab government, meanwhile, has clarified that the drive would be carried out in compliance with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Animal Birth Control Rules.
According to official statements issued earlier, the administration plans to establish dog shelters and temporary sanctuaries for captured animals. The government also clarified that euthanasia would only apply to rabid, incurably ill, or demonstrably dangerous dogs after proper veterinary certification and legal procedures.
Raveena Tandon has often used her social media platforms to speak about animal welfare and environmental issues. Her latest statement has now added to the broader public debate surrounding humane stray animal management and responsible implementation of animal welfare laws.
