The finale of Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys has sparked debate online around the final season’s posters. Following the release of the final episode, some viewers began criticizing Season 5 posters that appeared to tease major story developments. Fans have argued that many of those moments never actually happened in the series finale, calling the material “misleading.”

The Boys Season 5 posters face backlash after series finale
Several posters that were released to promote The Boys Season 5 are now drawing criticism from viewers following the series finale. Some fans have argued that several promotional posters created expectations that were never fulfilled by the season.
Much of the debate has focused on posters featuring Homelander and Butcher. Before the season aired, one poster appeared to hint at major destruction caused by Homelander and the complete downfall of Vought at Butcher’s hands. However, fans pointed out that the finale delivered a different outcome.
The final battle between Butcher and Homelander did take place inside the Oval Office. However, Homelander never carried out the large-scale violence many expected from the posters. Similarly, Butcher came close to releasing the Supe-killing virus. However, he ultimately failed to destroy Vought after Stan Edgar regained control of the company.
One user on X called the posters “misleading,” while another added, “so… every single poster was clickbait.”
One fan also criticized the season’s overall direction. They wrote, “The way they marketed the entire szn and the show in general was that Homelander was going to pop off on the public sooner or later… only to not do any of it.” The same user further argued, “I personally think the entire build up for the season was really useless, the most important part of defeating Homelander was introduced an episode before the finale which is a huge problem.”
However, not all viewers viewed the posters negatively. One user defended the season’s marketing campaign. They wrote, “These posters show what the ideal world looks like to both perspectives. Homelanders being a world where he is a God where his nonbelievers are punished, and Butcher in a world where Vought is completely destroyed. Neither got what they wanted in the end.”
