Hulu is bolstering its content library with a bit of superhero flair, as a 2008 film led by Will Smith will arrive on the platform next month. It is co-written by the Breaking Bad creator and features an impressive star cast, which helped the movie become a commercial success.

Hancock to stream on Hulu next month
Hancock will arrive on Hulu from Monday, June 1, 2026, per the streamer’s schedule.
Peter Berg directed the movie with a script from Vy Vincent Ngo, John August, and Breaking Bad’s Vince Gilligan. Interestingly, Vincent Ngo originated the story in his spec script, titled “Tonight, He Comes,” in 1996. It also featured a 12-year-old under Hancock’s care. Eventually, Gilligan and John August rewrote the script. They believed that a hero should not get drunk around a kid that young and ultimately removed that element (via NY Times).
The story centers on Hancock, an alcoholic and immortal superhuman whose reckless actions often cause more harm than good. However, when he saves Ray Embrey, a corporate PR consultant, Ray helps him rebuild a better public image. As time passes, Hancock discovers his true identity and his centuries-old connection to Ray’s wife, Mary.
Alongside starring as the titular hero, Will Smith also produced the movie through his production studio, Overbrook Entertainment. The cast also features Charlize Theron as Mary, Jason Bateman as Ray, Jae Head as Aaron, Eddie Marsan as Kenneth “Red” Parker Jr, Johnny Galecki as Jeremy, and Thomas Lennon as Mike, among others.
Sony Pictures Releasing handled Hancock’s distribution and released it globally on July 2, 2008. It opened to a less-than-favorable reception from both critics and the audience. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a Tomatometer score of 42% and a Popcornmeter score of 59%. Meanwhile, on IMDb, over 500K have rated it an average score of 6.4 out of 10.
Despite this, the movie beat the odds and became a commercial success. By the time Hancock ended its theatrical run, it had earned over $629.4 million worldwide against a budget of $150 million.
