“It’s a meeting place for the like-minded. That vibe is still there.” Bungalow Media has unveiled an official trailer for a rock doc called If These Walls Could Rock, a music history documentary about this iconic hotel in LA. This premiered at the 2025 DOC NYC Film Fest last fall and will be out to watch on VOD (and in a few theaters) this August. For more than 60 years, there has been one place in LA that has served as the home-away-from-home for the biggest names in rock and roll. Tucked just off the Sunset Strip, the Sunset Marquis Hotel (see on Google Maps) became more than a place to stay while on tour. It became a creative sanctuary where songs were written, debauchery was shared, & music history unfolded behind closed doors. A place where music, creativity, culture converge. Now for the first time that story is being told. “Within 5 minutes of walking in the Marquis, you may hear a rock & roll story that sounds completely made up, but come to learn is true. Still beyond the many amazing musical stories, the father-and-son tale at the heart of the hotel is what truly inspired us to create this film.” The secret is out about the Sunset Marquis. This looks like it will have some of the craziest rock stories ever told! And it’ll make you want to stay at this hotel, too.
Here’s the trailer (+ poster) for Measom & Williams’ doc If These Walls Could Rock, from YouTube:

Unforgettable moments shared by the most iconic legends in rock history. If These Walls Could Rock doc features rare archival footage, vivid animation and candid interviews. The film tells the story of rock n’ roll through the lens of this legendary hotel – the Sunset Marquis – as shared by the artists who call it home, including: Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Billy Bob Thornton, Slash, Dave Grohl, Cyndi Lauper, Morrissey, Sheryl Crow, Joe Elliot, Nancy Wilson, Steve Van Zandt, & more. Beneath the iconic guest list & tales of rock misadventure lies a more personal story: the partnership between founder George Rosenthal and his son Mark, who transformed this West Hollywood “motel” into one of the most iconic destinations in music history. If These Walls Could Rock is a documentary co-directed by filmmakers Tyler Measom (director of An Honest Liar, Biography: I Want My MTV, In the Balance, Takin’ Care of Business) & Craig A. Williams (writer on “Stark Raving Mad”, “Ozzy & Drix”, Underdog). Produced by MTV executives Rick Krim, Robert Friedman, Mike Powers; along with Mark Rosenthal, David Thurston, and Alexis Thurston. This initially premiered at the 2025 DOC NYC Film Festival last year. Bungalow Media debuts the If These Walls Could Rock in select US theaters + on VOD starting August 14th, 2026.
