Actor Varun Dhawan recently shared a personal story about his relationship with wife Natasha Dalal during an appearance on comedian Tanmay Bhat’s YouTube channel. The actor joined a special episode alongside Rohan Joshi, Piyush Sharma, Zakir Khan and Aditya Kulshrestha, where he reacted to memes, discussed his career and opened up about moments from his personal life.

Varun Dhawan recalls ‘bad proposal’ to wife Natasha Dalal: “Every time the timing was off”

During the conversation, Varun revealed that his proposal to Natasha was far from the perfect romantic scene often seen in films. According to the actor, several attempts to propose did not go as planned, with timing becoming the biggest obstacle.

Recalling the incident, Varun said, “I had planned to propose to Natasha in Alibaug in a pool. I played Mark Anthony’s song ‘You Sang to Me.’ I had thought we would be swimming in the pool and I would come out with the ring; by the time I moved to get the ring, Natasha had already gone out of the pool.”

The actor admitted that things continued to go wrong despite multiple attempts. “Two to three times I messed up; it’s not like how you see in films; there is no perfect proposal; every time the timing was off,” he said.

Varun further revealed that he eventually sought help from his friends to create the right moment. However, even that plan did not work smoothly. “Eventually, I told a couple of my friends to keep her in one place because she was walking around a lot. If she was at one place, I could go and propose; but she was either going to get a drink or have salad,” he recalled.

The actor added that Natasha eventually figured out what was happening before he could formally pop the question. “Eventually, she came to know that I was planning to propose, so it was a bad proposal. I played the song three times back to back,” Varun said, drawing laughs from the panel.

Despite the less-than-perfect proposal, the relationship stood the test of time. Varun and Natasha, who were childhood friends before becoming partners, tied the knot in January 2021 in an intimate ceremony attended by close friends and family members.

On the professional front, Varun is currently enjoying the theatrical run of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai.
