Aamir Khan has paid a heartfelt tribute to Dharmendra following the veteran actor’s demise, speaking with warmth and deep admiration about the late star’s legacy and the personal memories he holds close. In a conversation with Screen (Indian Express), Aamir reflected on the irreplaceable void Dharmendra leaves behind and described him as an extraordinary talent whose work continues to inspire.

Sharing his admiration for Dharmendra’s effortless command over language, Aamir said, “We’ve lost a really amazing talent, I would say, and someone who we can all really learn from even now as we watch his films. And he had such a command of his language. I mean, his Hindustani was so, itni saaf unki zabaan thi (his language had such precision), it was amazing to hear him.”

Aamir recalled how Dharmendra’s dignified presence made an impact wherever he went. “Even in live events, when he would speak, he had such grace, amazing grace. You know, I remember I was there at the book launch for Yusuf Saab Dilip Kumar Ji. And there he spoke, he spoke so, in such dignity and really, it’s a big loss for all of us.”

The superstar went on to share a deeply personal moment — one that has now become all the more poignant after Dharmendra’s passing. “And I’m fortunate I got to spend some time with him. In fact, Lahore, the film we’ve made with Sunny, I had the good fortune of showing him the film. So he’s seen the film. It’s not released yet, of course. But I was so glad because this was one of his favorite scripts. This is Rajkumar Santoshi’s? Yeah, yeah. Okay. So I’m so glad he got to see the film there. Lovely.”

The film Aamir refers to — Lahore 1947 — is an upcoming Hindi-language period drama directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced under Aamir Khan Productions. Set during the Partition, it brings together an ensemble featuring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh.

Based on Dr. Asghar Wajahat’s acclaimed play Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai, the story explores human relationships and emotional upheaval during one of the most defining chapters in Indian history. The film also marks a significant cinematic collaboration — the first time Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol have joined hands on a project. Meanwhile, Dharmendra passed away on November 25. The actor was admitted to Breach Candy hospital last month due to age related ailments and while he was in critical condition earlier this month, later it was said that he is recouping well and was discharged from the hospital.

Aamir’s recollections highlight not just Dharmendra’s towering legacy but also the affection and respect he commanded from his peers. His final viewing of Lahore 1947 adds a heartfelt layer to the film’s journey, making its release even more emotionally resonant for fans and the industry alike.
