Andrew Garfield‘s latest box office hit is expanding into a trilogy. The Magic Faraway Tree, based on Enid Blyton‘s classic book series and also starring Rebecca Ferguson, is set to receive two sequels.
Two sequels to The Magic Faraway Tree being planned
Based on Blyton’s children’s book series of the same name, it was released in the UK in March, where it has grossed nearly $20 million so far. Additionally, it has also earned over $7 million in Australia, reports Deadline.
Pippa Harris and Danny Perkins are producers on the fantasy adventure. Following the movie’s success, Harris revealed how they had been trying to adapt Blyton’s books for a long time. “I first tried to get the rights for about 20 years ago. We’ve been running Neal Street for over 25 years, and it was quite an early project for us, but the rights situation was very complicated, and it took a long time to unpick,” she said.
The Magic Faraway Tree isn’t the only book-based movie enjoying a dream run at the box office last year. In 2025, Sydney Sweeney’s The Housemaid (based on Freida McFadden’s 2022 psychological thriller novel) performed excellently in theaters. This year, Wuthering Heights (based on Emily Brontë’s 1874 novel) and Project Hail Mary (based on Andy Weir’s 2021 sci-fi novel) have already witnessed huge box office success.
Apart from Garfield and Ferguson in the lead roles, The Magic Faraway Tree also features Nicola Coughlan (Bridgerton), Nonso Anozie (Sweet Tooth, Artemis Fowl), Jessica Gunning (Baby Reindeer), Dustin Demri-Burns (All My Friends Hate Me), Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner, Can You Keep a Secret?), and Oliver Chris (King Charles III). The rest of the cast includes Jennifer Saunders, Lenny Henry, Michael Palin, and Simon Russell Beale.
The movie is set to hit U.S. theaters on August 21, 2026.
