Anil Kapoor recalls stepping into Kamal Haasan’s iconic role in Biwi No. 1 as film turns 27: “It gave me a season full of awards”
In a heartfelt post shared with his followers, Anil Kapoor expressed how some cinematic projects carry an undeniable aura right from their inception. Reminiscing about the journey, he wrote, “Some films feel special, even as you’re making them. Biwi No. 1 was truly one such film. A role that was originally portrayed by Kamal Haasan, it gave me a season full of awards, a friendship with Salman that only grew stronger, and Tabu! Two films together, two blockbusters, both still living rent-free in people’s hearts even after 27 years… That’s pretty precious in my books!”
Beyond the acting accolades and the evolving box office equations, the veteran star shed light on the creation of the film’s evergreen soundtrack. He continued, “And then there was Sukhwinder Singh, who created Hai Hai Mirchi spontaneously during a flight. That’s the kind of magic this film was made of.”
Concluding his nostalgic tribute, Anil Kapoor extended his gratitude to the core creative minds who conceptualized the comic entertainer. He expressed appreciation for the director, producer, and writing team by writing, “Thank you, David Dhawan, Vashu Bhagnani, Rumi Jaffery, and Sukhwinder Singh for this unforgettable journey. The cast, the music, the memories, everything about it remains special. Here’s to the film that gave me so much. 🙏✨”

The anniversary celebrations coincide with an intense public and legal dialogue regarding the intellectual property rights of the film’s original tracks.
A legal dispute has emerged over the iconic tracks ‘Chunnari Chunnari’ and ‘Ishq Sona Hai,’ which are central to an ownership discussion involving producer Vashu Bhagnani and upcoming Bollywood film, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Concurrently, filmmaker Jackky Bhagnani also stepped forward on social media to honor the silver jubilee milestone, recalling his childhood memories of running around the vibrant sets while his father Vashu Bhagnani and David Dhawan collaborated to create box office magic.
