A 2024 alien invasion film starring Anthony Mackie has seen a resurgence on HBO Max. It is directed by George Nolfi, known for his contributions to hits such as Ocean’s Twelve, The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Adjustment Bureau.

Elevation emerges as a streaming hit on HBO Max
According to FlixPatrol’s report for May 12, 2026, Elevation is currently #6 on HBO Max’s Top 10 films in the United States. It has been in the Top 10 for the last three days, showcasing sustained interest among subscribers.
Meanwhile, Gerard Butler’s Greenland 2: Migration and Greenland are leading the chart in #1 and #2 spots, respectively. They are followed by Margot Robbie’s Wuthering Heights at #3,Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme at #4, and Mortal Kombat at #5. Interestingly, the 1995 version of Mortal Kombat is currently #8. This is likely due to the release of Mortal Kombat II earlier this month.
Elevation takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where mysterious predators dominate the planet below 8,000 feet. After most of humanity is wiped out, the survivors live in isolated communities in the mountains. The story centers on Will and his son, Hunter, who has a lung disease. When they begin to run short of oxygen filters, Will joins a team on a dangerous journey to get the medical supplies from an alien-infested area.
John Glenn, Jacob Roman, and Kenny Ryan served as the writers. Meanwhile, Brad Fuller (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) served as a co-producer. The film’s cast features Anthony Mackie as Will, Morena Baccarin as Nina, Maddie Hasson as Katie, and Danny Boyd Jr. as Hunter, among others. Alongside starring in the film, Mackie also co-produced it.
Vertical (formerly Vertical Entertainment), the independent film distributor, handled Elevation’s worldwide release. The film premiered in theaters on November 8, 2024. Despite an intriguing premise, it received a divisive reception. While critics rated it at 53%, users gave it 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Elevation reportedly cost $18 million to make. However, it managed to earn just a little over $3.7 million at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo).
