Here’s a piece of news that’ll make you feel really, really old.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s acclaimed sitcom The Office turns 25 this July, which may not be something you care to be reminded of. But you’ll probably be pleased to hear that the BBC is marking the occasion with a special episode of Remembers – the retrospective series celebrating some of television’s most popular and influential programmes.

Airing on Wednesday 8 July at 10pm on BBC Two and iPlayer, Remember… The Office reunites Martin Freeman (Tim) and Mackenzie Crook (Gareth) as they look back on the groundbreaking mockumentary, which followed the comings and goings at Slough paper merchant Wernham Hogg.

The pair will share behind-the-scenes stories and personal memories, while reflecting on the show’s enduring legacy and cultural impact, which saw it pick up a slew of awards, spawn an international franchise and cement its place as one of the greatest British sitcoms ever made.

The synopsis reads: “It’s been more than 15 years since the pair last laid eyes on each other, but the groundbreaking comedy’s 25th anniversary has brought them together once again to share their memories of working – and laughing – alongside Ricky Gervais, co-writer Stephen Merchant, and fellow Wernham Hogg star Lucy Davis, who played Tim’s love interest, Dawn.”

Among the stories viewers can expect are Freeman recalling his first audition, how Crook eventually came to embrace Gareth’s famously awful haircut, and the many ways Gervais’s on-set antics threatened to derail filming on an almost daily basis.

Freeman and Crook also reflect on what it was really like to be part of the show at the height of its success, as well as sharing their thoughts on the American adaptation and reveal their favourite moments from life at Wernham Hogg.
