It has been reported that classic 1980s animated series Jem, also known as Jem and The Holograms, is getting a live-action remake, with it currently being in development at Amazon MGM Studios.

According to Deadline, the reboot is being produced by Kilter Films, the company run by Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan which has previously been behind Westworld and Fallout. The project also comes from Hasbro Entertainment.
Jem, which was created by Christy Marx, originally debuted in 1985, and followed record company owner Jerrica Benton and her alter-ego Jem, who was the lead singer of the rock group Jem and The Holograms.
The series, which ran for three seasons, was known for featuring music videos across all the episodes and for its original songs, including the theme tune Truly Outrageous.

This isn’t the first time Jem and the Holograms has been brought to live action. The programme was rebooted as a film in 2015, which was directed by Jon M Chu (Wicked), written by Ryan Landels, and starred Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, Ryan Guzman, Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis.
The film received largely negative reviews, with a 22% critics score and a 40% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and was a financial disappointment, making only $2.3 million at the box office against a reported $5 million budget.
According to Deadline, the new series will go to Prime Video, to join the streamer’s slate of young adult content which also includes Off Campus, The Summer I Turned Pretty and We Were Liars.
