Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast in a new A24 TV show.
Cumberbatch is best known for playing Doctor Strange in the MCU. Whether or not he’ll reprise that role in either of the upcoming Avengers movies — Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars — isn’t exactly clear, as Marvel Studios has yet to confirm Doctor Strange’s role in either film; the actor is keeping plenty busy, though, as he’ll be in a Guy Ritchie movie, titled Wife & Dog, that arrives in October, along with a new Cary Joji Fukunaga film, Blood on Snow, that does not yet have a release date.
What else do we know about the new Benedict Cumberbatch TV show?
Per Deadline, Cumberbatch has found yet another project to work on, as he’ll be starring in an A24 TV show called White Smoke. He’ll also be producing for his production company, SunnyMarch.
White Smoke is based on a novel, written by Nick Brucker, that won’t be published until 2027.
Deadline’s article explains, “[White Smoke] is set among a group of duplicitous con men and thieves determined to steal the Vatican’s most remarkable treasuresduring a papal conclave. Sources say that even though the book won’t hit shelves till next year, the town was buzzing for the property, with various suitors chasing for both film and TV. Since the book is the first in a series, the sellers felt the TV route made more sense, and A24 and SunnyMarch’s offer was just too good to pass up.

A premiere date for White Smoke has not yet been revealed.
