NetflixandShondalandjust madeBridgertonhistory with theirSeason 5announcement, and fans have every reason to celebrate. The streamer revealed a release window that breaks the show’s long-standing pattern between seasons.

Bridgerton Season 5 comes out on Netflix in 2027
Netflix confirmed that Bridgerton Season 5 will premiere in 2027, as Deadline reported. Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria announced the news during Netflix’s upfront presentation. Notably, this marks the first time two consecutive seasons will debut in back-to-back calendar years.
Previously, the Shondaland-produced series maintained a two-year gap between each installment. Season 1 launched in December 2020, Season 2 followed in 2022, and Season 3 arrived in 2024. Season 4 then debuted in 2026, continuing that established pattern.
However, Netflix accelerated production to close the gap for Season 5. The streamer started filming in March, just weeks after Season 4 Part 2 premiered on Feb. 26. As a result, that represents the quickest turnaround in the show’s history, surpassing Season 4’s two-month gap after Season 3.
Season 5 spotlights the Bridgertons’ introverted middle daughter Francesca, played by Hannah Dodd. Two years after losing her husband John Stirling, Fran decides to reenter the marriage mart. Additionally, the season adapts Francesca’s book in the series, When He Was Wicked.
Meanwhile, John’s cousin Michaela, played by Masali Baduza, returns to London to manage the Kilmartin estate. Consequently, Fran’s complicated feelings will have her questioning her pragmatic intentions. Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain, and Gemma Knight Jones have also joined the cast.
Jess Brownell serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen. Furthermore, the Bridgerton universe has appeared on Netflix’s Global Top 10 over 60 times. Seasons 1 and 3 each exceeded 100 million views in their first 91 days, landing on Netflix’s Most Popular TV List.
