Britney Spears is the next musician to be getting the biopic treatment.Wicked director Jon M. Chu will helm the film from a screenplay by New Girl creator Liz Meriweather.
The film will be based off Spears’ memoirThe Woman in Mewhich came out in 2024 and became one of the fastest selling memoirs ever published. The story will chart Spears’ rise as a teen pop icon, whose early hits include ‘Baby, One More Time’, ‘Drive Me Crazy’ and ‘Oops! I Did It Again’, as well as her subsequent troubles with paparazzi, the law and family. Those issues once again became a huge societal talking point a few years ago when Spears went to court against her family to relieve herself from her father’s conservatorship over her life.
Spears is one of the world’s most successful pop stars with over 150 million albums sold throughout her career. In addition to her music, Spears has had a small career in TV and movies beginning with the 2002 filmCrossroadswith Zoe Saldaña and Taryn Manning. She also had guest appearances in How I Met Your Mother,Will & Grace andJane The Virgin.
Chu’sWickedpartner Marc Platt will produce the biopic, which is being produced by Universal Pictures.
