Sacha Baron Cohen is reviving one his most iconic characters for a new feature film. Cohen will reprise his role as British hip-hop talk show host Ali G in a film he has already shot in secret.
Cohen first introduced his Ali G persona onThe 11 O’Clock Show before headlining his own HBO series inDa Ali G Showwhere he would interview various celebrities, political figures and people on the street in his guise as Ali G. It was also this series where Cohen developed Borat and Brüno Gehard as part of his satirical interviews on unsuspecting subjects.
Cohen had already starred in a feature film as the character in 2002’sAli G Indahouse. This was the first feature film of his characters that were followed by 2006’sBoratand 2009’s Brüno. A sequel toBoratwas released in 2020, titledBorat Subsequent Moviefilm.
No other details have been provided of the newAli Gmovie, which was first rumoured back in 2023. The secrecy of its shoot was likely to preserve Cohen’s shock-and-awe style of interviews to say ridiculous things and catch people’s genuine reactions or even agreement with whatever hyperbolic statement he was making.
