Coronation Street and Emmerdale are set for a shake-up as ITV’s schedule is disrupted next month.

As England get set to face off against Spain for a spot in the FIFA Women’s World Cup, episodes for both soaps on Friday 5 June will be taken off air.

Live coverage of the World Cup qualifier will be aired instead on ITV1 during the 8pm-9pm “power hour” airtime the two soaps normally fill each weeknight.

It is not yet known when the episodes will air, or if the episode count will simply go down for that week.

Over the course of this year, Emmerdale and Corrie have both had episodes moved to a weekend slot to accommodate live sports coverage.

The news comes after ITV cut back on the output of the beloved soaps last year, with the “power hour” launching with a crossover “Corriedale” episode in January 2026.

The smash-hit episode saw the two ITV soap worlds collide quite literally when characters from both residential areas end up in a car crash.

It ended in the deaths of two characters, while others were left to deal with the aftermath.

Both soaps currently have major plotlines developing – with the residents of Coronation Street embroiled in a whodunnit after domestic abuser Theo Silverton was found murdered in an alleyway.

Moira and Cain hug in Emmerdale

The investigation is still ongoing – but is someone going to crack anytime soon?

Meanwhile in Emmerdale, resident bad boy Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) finds himself back behind bars – shortly after leaving hospital as he struggles to come to terms with having prostate cancer.

Arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour and public urination, the arrest does not sit well with Moira, and Cain is still hiding the truth from her about the operation needed to potentially save his life.

And the search is on for the farm arsonist, with attention turning to Kammy. But Kammy actually has an explanation: he’s homeless, and has been sleeping rough in the barns in order to hide it from everyone. Will he share that though?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.
