A major moment from Daredevil: Born Again Season 2‘s finale seems to have frustrated some viewers. Many commenters online have compared it to a specific scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s trailer to explain their frustration.

In Daredevil: Born Again, Matt Murdock gets arrested for operating as Daredevil. Meanwhile, Spider-Man, despite his own vigilantism, ended up receiving the key to it. Fans have since taken to social media to express confusion and dismay.
Daredevil fans don’t understand why Spider-Man gets the key to the city
In the finale of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, Matt Murdock confessed his double life as a superhero. He did this to corroborate Wilson Fisk’s crimes and acquit Karen Page of the false charges she was facing. Unfortunately, instead of being celebrated for his heroism throughout the years, Murdock was imprisoned for vigilantism.
Fans compared this to a scene in Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s trailer in which the titular hero appears to get the key to the city. They highlighted the unfairness in how the latter, who seemingly did nothing to stop Fisk and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF), got the key while Daredevil, actively involved in trying to stop them, was imprisoned.
“UR TELLING ME SPIDER-MAN, A VIGILANTE THAT DIDN’T HELP THE CITY WHEN IT WAS NEEDED GETS THE KEY TO THE CITY?!” A user wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Another user pointed out how Spider-Man was nowhere to be found during The Void’s attack in Thunderbolts* and Mayor Kingpin and the AVTF’s crimes, wondering what he did to deserve the key despite sitting out of both issues.
Yet another speculated that Brand New Day will say Spider-Man was saving the city from a well-known villain or some other danger during Fisk’s villainous spree, and because of this, he will get the key.
I swear they gonna say he was saving the entire city from the Lizard or smth while Fisk’s whole bs was happening pic.twitter.com/SK0FI1mdJY

“Spiderman did nothing to save the city from the Void or Fisk and still received a key to the city while Matt rots in jail,” a user wrote. They remarked, “Most realistic thing in the MCU is life is not fair.”
A user commented, “Daredevil is sitting in Prison, meanwhile Spider-Man gets a key to the city.”
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently streaming on Disney+. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres on July 31, 2026.
