Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) will confront his wife Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) abuser Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in forthcoming Emmerdale scenes.
New spoilers reveal that, after discovering the truth about Charity’s blackmail and sexual assault ordeal, he charges over to a hospital in Sheffield.
In a dramatic episode that aired earlier this week, she finally came clean after allowing her family to believe that she was suffering from postnatal depression. Mack was sickened to learn that the baby Charity was supposedly carrying on behalf of granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), was actually her own.
To make matters worse, the child’s father was Ross Barton (Michael Parr).
Mack decided it was high time that Sarah learnt the truth, but couldn’t bring himself to break her heart. Charity was relieved that he wasn’t going to make a reckless decision, especially since her torment stretched far beyond that.
She explained that for months, Dr Todd had blackmailed her out of thousands of pounds, and on the night of Sarah’s 21st birthday, she was raped by the surgeon.
Although Mack wasn’t pleased by the revelation that his wife had been unfaithful, he urged Charity to go to the police and make an official report about the blackmail. That way, Todd wouldn’t be able to manipulate anyone else.
In forthcoming scenes, Charity speaks to DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) about the blackmail. Reid agrees to take a statement, but delivers the upsetting news that this case will be treated entirely separately to the earlier sexual assault charge.
Charity begins to wonder whether telling the truth has all been for nothing, and tells Mack that she wants to attend baby Leyla’s christening and pretend like things are normal.
After the christening party, Mack becomes overwhelmed by the secrecy of the situation and in self-destruct mode, tries to pick a fight with an oblivious Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill). Fortunately, he doesn’t fight back, but urges Mack to explain himself.
He blurts out that Charity cheated on him, and Kev encourages him to seek revenge “in a clever way”.
What could this mean?
Well, shortly afterwards, Mack arrives at the hospital in Sheffield where Todd now works. She vehemently denies his claims, saying that she received consent from Charity and therefore it wasn’t an assault.
She also makes an attempt at convincing him that his wife is a pathological liar, and puts on a sympathetic façade.
Mack shuts Todd down, saying that he’s determined to see her imprisoned for raping his wife. She smugly orders security to drag him out of the building, and he screams out a final threat – if she touches Charity again, he’ll kill her.
Back in the village, Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) urges Charity to fight for justice, and the next day, the police arrive to speak to Mack.
