“A new era of cyberpunk action begins!” Yes! Here we go, sci-fi geeks. Bandai Namco has debuted their full official trailer for a new version of GITS titled simply The Ghost in the Shell (with “the” in the title). A very jazzy, angsty new trailer to enjoy along with the second teaser a few months ago. From the acclaimed animation studio Science Saru, this is a brand new animated TV series version of the iconic sci-fi series Ghost in the Shell, which comes from a manga that has been turned into many successful movies & series already (here’s the first teaser from a few months ago). Beginning with Shirow Masamune’s 1989 manga, The Ghost in the Shell, the franchise has since transcended media boundaries, expanding into mediums like anime, a live-action Hollywood film (remember?), and video games. Motoko Kusanagi, also known as Major, returns again battling more cybercrime. With animation by Science Saru (Inu-oh, The Colors Within, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Dan Da Dan). The fresh anime arrives in Japan as a TV series launching in July 2026 – as a Prime Video exclusive. This is looking better and better! Featuring music production by FlyingDog and music direction by Taisei Iwasaki. They clearly updated this for modern young anime audiences with more emotive & flamboyant characters but it still looks fun. I’ll be watching this in the summer for sure – I’m in.

Ghost in the Shell is a landmark work of cyberpunk science fiction set in a near-future when information networks envelop the world & highly advanced cyborg augmentation technology has enabled the creation of the cyberbrain. It follows the story of the full-body cyborg Motoko Kusanagi and the combat force she leads in the fight against cybercrime. The new TV anime, The Ghost in the Shell, is the latest chapter in this storied legacy. The Ghost in the Shell, also known as 攻殻機動隊 (Kôkaku Kidôtai) in Japanese, is a series developed & directed by Japanese animation filmmaker Moko-chan, aka Touma Kimura, director & key animator on the anime series “Tatami Time Machine Blues”, “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off”, and “Dandadan” previously. The screenplay is written by EnJoe Toh (of “Space Dandy”, “Godzilla Singular Point”). Adapted from the iconic manga series created by Shirow Masamune. Shuhei Handa is Character Design & Executive Animation Director. Produced by Eunyoung Choi. Animation by Science Saru. Music by Ryo Konishi & Yuki Kanesaka; with FlyingDog. Bandai Namco will debut The Ghost in the Shell series in Japan starting in July 2026 this summer. No US release date set yet. For more info and updates, visit the official site. Any good?
