General Hospital star Nathan Dean, who has been in and out of Port Charles multiple times over the past years, believed that he was getting fired on the very first day of his job. But Anthony Geary’s reaction to the slight mishap, which made Dean think so, was enough for the star to gain confidence in his new position. During his recent podcast appearance, Dean opened up about this.

Nathan Dean recalls General Hospital co-star saving him from getting fired
Nathan Dean, who plays Ethan on General Hospital, recently appeared on Maurice Benard’s State of Mindpodcast. During his appearance on the podcast, Dean discussed a curious incident at the very start of his tenure.
He recalled on the podcast about the mishap that happened on his first day on the show. He mentioned how soap veteran Anthony Geary helped him gain the bit of confidence he needed to go on.
Dean revealed that the show had told him to be “this cool bartender person.” So, in his bid to impress, Dean tried to learn some quick tricks. He had never bartended in his life before, so when he tried to implement his trick, a mishap followed. “Very first take, very first day, very first scene… the entire bottle… splashed all over,” he recalled, “I looked at Crystal [stage manager] and I said, ‘I’m fired, aren’t I?’”
But Greary’s response at this point changed everything for Nathan Dean. “That was hilarious. Just do it again…,” Greary told him, “The worst thing they can ever say to you is like, ‘No, don’t do that.’”
He went on to speak about Greary and their connection. “We just kind of thought and functioned the same way… and I know they wrote that, but that was true before they wrote it.”
Dean also spoke about returning to General Hospital after six years. “I left the show about six years before he retired,” he explained, “In those years, I would fly out to Amsterdam, hang out with him and Claudio [Gama]. They were like my European family. I got to spend a lot of time with them.”
He also expressed his sadness over Greary’s death on the podcast.
