After a three year wait since Good Omens season 2 debuted, the beloved fantasy series is finally almost back for its 90-minute finale episode.

The new instalment of the series, which is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, will of course reunite Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale and David Tennant’s Crowley after that heartbreaking end to season 2.
But how will it all play out, who will be back for the finale and when will fans be able to watch it on Prime Video?
Read on for everything you need to know about Good Omens 3.
Will Good Omens season 3 actually be released?
Yes, Good Omens season 3 – the finale episode – will be released in May 2026 on Prime Video.
Michael Sheen had previously thrown doubt on the episode’s release, telling The Times: “I really don’t know what’s going to happen with it.
“We [Sheen and Tennant] were both relieved we finished the story, but that’s within this really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people get to see it, but that, to a large extent, is out of our hands.”
The context that Sheen is presumably referring to involves author Gaiman.
Gaiman, co-author of Good Omens, exited the TV series after he was accused of sexual assault, which he has strongly denied. He contributed to writing the Good Omens finale but he did not work on the production and his production company Blank Corporation was not involved.
A total of nine women have spoken out against the writer, with their accusations being detailed in a Vulture article, published in January 2025, and in a Tortoise Media podcast, released in July 2024.

Allegations included claims that Gaiman engaged them in “rough” sex and BDSM without their consent. The novelist has firmly denied any non-consensual or illegal conduct in a statement.
He said: “As I read through this latest collection of accounts, there are moments I half-recognise and moments I don’t, descriptions of things that happened sitting beside things that emphatically did not happen.
“I’m far from a perfect person, but I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.”
Good Omens season 3 release date
The Good Omens finale episode will officially debut on Prime Video on Wednesday 13 May 2026.
Filming wrapped on the finale episode in 2025. In December 2023, Good Omens was officially renewed for season 3.

Amazon MGM Studios head of television said Vernon Sanders said: “The final season is sure to be packed with the same dynamic energy that our global customers have come to enjoy.”

What will the plot of Good Omens season 3 be?
The finale episode of Good Omens will pick up after Aziraphale and Crowley went their separate ways at the end of season 2.
The episode will follow events discussed decades ago between Gaiman and Sir Terry Pratchett about what would happen next for the characters.

Fans will also be delighted to hear that Tennant has teased more romance between Aziraphale and Crowley in season 3, telling Michelle Visage on the BAFTA red carpet: “Well, you don’t know how many we’ve got lined up for series 3. I mean, neither do I, to be honest, but, you know.”
The final scenes of season 2 saw Crowley kissing Aziraphale and the shocked angel deciding to return to heaven without the demon. A split-screen ending shows the pair unhappily going their separate ways.
Good Omens star Maggie Service, who played a new character called Maggie in season 2, told Radio Times of that ending: “Where we end, I think, is so beautifully written because none of it’s tied up in a bow, none of it’s Hollywood magic. It’s real within fantasy – and what is going to happen next?”
We’ve now also got an official synopsis for the final episode, which says: “Good Omens 3 picks up where the ineffable story left off in season 2 as the beloved and unlikely duo – angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley return to face their most epic and personal adventure yet.
“Their millennia-long friendship has been fractured ever since Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) accepted the offer to return to Heaven, leaving Crowley (David Tennant) behind.
“Now, as the newly appointed Supreme Archangel, Aziraphale is tasked with overseeing the Second Coming, a monumental responsibility that weighs heavily on him, and is made worse when his plans cause some consternation among the other angels. Meanwhile, heartbroken Crowley finds himself at rock bottom, wandering the streets of Soho.
“As the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, Aziraphale and Crowley must confront their relationship, heal old wounds and rediscover their bond. From navigating London’s gangsters to thwarting Hellish threats, they face personal betrayals and the complexities of their own emotions in this timeless expedition.
“Together, they must decide whether their friendship – and the world itself – is worth saving.”
Good Omens cast – who will be back for season 3?

Meanwhile, beyond the central duo, there are a number of other members of the Good Omens cast who are confirmed to return, including Derek Jacobi, Doon Mackichan and Liz Carr.
Joining new for season 3, we also have Bilal Hasna, who will be playing Jesus.

It’s uncertain whether Jon Hamm will be returning as Gabriel – speaking with Radio Times this year, Hamm was asked whether he was back for season 3, to which he said: “That’s a good question!
“That’s up to people whose pay cheques are significantly larger than mine so I’ll leave that to them but things ended up very well with Archangel Gabriel.
“I think he’s found his true love and is floating the universe somewhere so there’s always a chance that he will re-coalesce in some way, shape or form. So, here’s hoping.”
For now, here’s a list of the confirmed cast members for season 3:
- David Tennant as Crowley
- Michael Sheen as Aziraphale
- Derek Jacobi as Metatron
- Doon Mackichan as Archangel Michael
- Gloria Obianyo as Uriel
- Liz Carr as Saraqael
- Paul Chahidi as Sandalphon
- Quelin Sepulveda as Muriel
- Bilal Hasna as Jesus
One person who won’t be returning is director Douglas Mackinnon, who confirmed his exit from the show ahead of the renewal.
Mackinnon has directed all episodes of the David Tennant and Michael Sheen series to date, and has been heavily involved in the production of the show.
However, after sharing a photo of the Good Omens set on Instagram, Mackinnon confirmed in the comments: “I’m not involved with this show anymore.”
Instead, the episode has been directed by Rachel Talalay, who is known for her work on Doctor Who.
