Kate Beckinsale has fought her fare share of big-screen monsters over the years, but now she’s about to tackle zombies in George A. Romero’s long-gestating Twilight of the Dead.

Per Deadline’s exclusive the Underworld actor will take over the zombie-bashing from Milla Jovovich, to take the lead in the final installment of Romero’s undead franchise.
The genre-defining director had written a treatment for the seventh entry in the series before passing away in 2017, and now Twilight of the Dead has been given a reskin with a new cast, director, and financial backers.
The Paz Brothers, Doron and Yoav Paz (The Golem) will take the reins from The Machinist director Brad Anderson, with Roundtable Entertainment producing and Magenta Light Studios (Deep Water) unleashing/distributing the zombie apocalypse in theaters across North America and Canada.

The synopsis for the conclusion to Romero’s saga, which began with 1968’s Night of the Living Dead, reveals that the film is “set on a decimated earth where the last vestiges of humanity are trapped between warring factions and an evolving undead threat”.
