A set of first-look images have been unveiled for Marble Hall Murders, the highly anticipated sequel series to Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders.
The six-part series, which is based on the third and final novel in Anthony Horowitz’s Susan Ryeland series, will air later this year, and will reunite Lesley Manville’s Susan Ryeland with her literary detective Atticus Pünd, played by Tim McMullan.
The images show us both Manville and McMullan in the series, along with new additions to the cast Mark Bonnar (Line of Duty) and Patricia Hodge (All Creatures Great and Small).
Meanwhile, other new cast members confirmed to appear include Jamie Blackley (Outrageous), Daniel Cerqueira (This City Is Ours), Harry Lloyd (I, Jack Wright), Rupert Penry-Jones (Spooks), Anneika Rose (Line of Duty), Danny Sapani (Halo) and Zubin Varla (Andor).
The synopsis for Marble Hall Murders, which was filmed in Dublin, Corfu and London, says: “Editor Susan Ryeland is hired to work on a continuation novel of the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author (Blackley).
“When the job leads Susan into another murder case, she unexpectedly finds herself a suspect. In the world of the novel, Atticus Pünd is visiting the island of Corfu when he becomes embroiled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont (Hodge), whose family he investigates with the assistance of a Greek detective (Varla).”
When the series was first confirmed, Horowitz said: “I’m so happy to bring the team back – stars, director, producers, and crew – for a third instalment of what has been a fantastically successful TV series. I have a feeling this could be the best yet.”
Meanwhile, executive producer Jill Green added: “Anthony has once again brought his unique and original perspective to the world of murder mystery. Marble Hall Murders completes the trilogy, and the scripts and lead actors are once again at the top of their game.”
