Parvathy Thiruvothu has spent the last two decades building one of the most acclaimed careers in Indian cinema, earning recognition for consistently choosing layered and unconventional roles over formula-driven storytelling. From winning a National Film Award to multiple Kerala State Film Awards and Filmfare trophies, the actor has carved a unique space for herself through performances that balance emotional depth with authenticity.

Parvathy Thiruvothu reflects on 20 years in cinema: “I feel like I’m just starting out again”
However, despite completing 20 years in the industry, Parvathy says she feels like she is entering a completely new creative phase in her journey. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor reflected on reinvention, creative instinct and the importance of staying grounded amidst recognition and success.
Recalling the emotional moment she received her sixth Filmfare Award, Parvathy spoke about the significance of having her parents present during the occasion. She admitted that she had not originally planned to bring them on stage but eventually felt compelled to do so in that deeply personal moment. “For me, they’ve been the only constant,” she said while speaking about her parents and their unwavering support throughout her life and career.
The actor also shared that her parents never imposed expectations or dictated her choices while she was growing up. Instead, they encouraged her to independently understand the difference between right and wrong — something she now considers central to both her personal and professional decisions.
Parvathy further explained that instinct has played a major role in shaping her filmography. Rather than chasing external validation or industry expectations, she revealed that she often takes time to sit with every important decision before committing to a project. “I should be able to sleep well at night,” she said, describing the principle she follows before saying yes or no to any opportunity.
According to the actor, trusting her instincts has helped her avoid choices she may have later regretted, even if that occasionally meant stepping away from projects that appeared commercially attractive.
Despite spending two decades in the industry, Parvathy spoke about her career with a sense of rediscovery rather than fatigue or cynicism. “At 20 years, I feel like I’m just starting out again,” she said, adding that collaborating with younger filmmakers and creators has brought renewed excitement to her work.
Over the years, the actor has been part of several critically acclaimed films including Uyare, Take Off, Charlie and Bangalore Days, performances that have further established her reputation as one of the most respected voices in contemporary Indian cinema.
Parvathy will next be seen headlining the upcoming Prime Video series Storm, continuing her association with character-driven and unconventional storytelling.
