It’s time for a brand new psychological thriller to land on 5 and as is usually the case, it’s a cast stacked full of familiar faces in The Fortune.
The new four-part drama comes from The Inheritance writer Aschlin Ditta and features the likes of Poldark favourite Eleanor Tomlinson, Harry Potter’s Matthew Lewis and All Creatures Great and Small star Callum Woodhouse.
Chatting exclusively to Radio Times about her leading role in the series, Tomlinson revealed: “I don’t think I’ve played anyone like her before, no. I think that’s what appealed. I think Amanda is constantly just trying to figure out what the hell is going on. She just really cares about her family.”
She added: “Every time she tries to get answers, there’s that immense frustration. I think there’s a lot of sadness in her, but there’s also just this love of her family and she just wants answers.”

Eleanor Tomlinson as Amanda Blakefield
Who is Amanda? Amanda leads a relatively happy life, working in her best friend’s café with her husband, raising their son Luke and regularly visiting her mother, who is living with dementia. But her world is turned upside down when one day, she’s paid a visit by lawyer Laura who informs her that a mysterious businessman has left his entire estate to her.
However, Amanda has no idea who he is but the revelation leads to secrets, tensions and a serious decision whether to take the money.
Where have I seen Eleanor Tomlinson before? Best known for her roles in Poldark, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, The Couple Next Door and The Nevers. She has more recently starred in The Forsytes and One Day.
Matthew Lewis as Jimmy Blakefield
Who is Jimmy? Amanda’s husband, who works as a chef in Sandy’s café. When Amanda learns of her potential newfound wealth, it creates a bit of unexpected tension between the pair – but Jimmy also starts acting slightly suspiciously.
Where have I seen Matthew Lewis before? Lewis is best known for his starring role in the Harry Potter films as Neville Longbottom but more recently, has led the cast of 5’s Murder Before Evensong. He has also starred in All Creatures Great and Small, Ripper Street, Happy Valley and The Syndicate.
Denis Lawson as Martin Worrall
Who is Martin? A successful businessman who certainly doesn’t struggle for money, we see how he leads an affluent life with his wife and spoilt son – but abruptly dies at the start of the series, setting off a domino effect of pretty major proportions.
Where have I seen Denis Lawson before? Lawson is known for his roles in the original Star Wars series, having more recently reprised his role as Wedge Antilles in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. He has also starred in New Tricks, Holby City and Father Brown.
Rebecca Front as Fiona Worrall
Who is Fiona? Martin’s wife, she is shocked to learn that her husband has died by suicide and sets out to find out why. But is she hiding some secrets of her own?
Where have I seen Rebecca Front before? Front is known for her roles in The Thick of It, Poldark, Avenue 5 and Humans. She has also starred in War & Peace, Dark Money and The Hack.
Callum Woodhouse as Anthony Worrall
Who is Anthony? Anthony is the son of Fiona and Martin, who is left shaken by his father’s unexpected death. He’s experienced a very privileged life and hasn’t had to want for anything so is shocked to find out that his expected inheritance has actually been left to a stranger.
Where have I seen Callum Woodhouse before? Woodhouse is best known for his fan-favourite role in 5’s All Creatures Great and Small, as well as The Durrells. He has also starred in Cold Feet and Father Brown.
Stephen Tompkinson as Boots Maddison
Who is Boots? The farm worker on Martin’s estate, Boots is very close to his family and so, is soon embroiled in Fiona and Anthony’s plans to shake off Amanda.
Where have I seen Stephen Tompkinson before? Tompkinson is known for his roles in Wild at Heart and DCI Banks, as well as Trollied, The Split, Sherwood and Ellis.
Danielle Walters as Sandy
Who is Sandy? Sandy is Amanda’s best friend and runs the local café where she works. Constantly rushed off her feet by her booming business, she soon grows annoyed with Amanda as it becomes clear that her friend is extremely distracted.
Where have I seen Danielle Walters before? Walters is best known for her role in Chewing Gum, but has also made appearances in Top Boy, EastEnders and Casualty.
Nina Wadia as Laura
Who is Laura? Laura is the lawyer tasked with informing Amanda about Martin’s will, as well as telling his annoyed family that their expected inheritance is set to go to a woman they’ve never met.
Where have I seen Nina Wadia before? Wadia has had notable roles in Goodness Gracious Me, EastEnders and Still Open All Hours. She has also starred in The Outlaws, Count Abdulla and Trollied.
