Prime Video has renewed its popular gambling crime-drama series for Season 2. Matka King is an Indian TV show that originally premiered on the streaming platform on April 17. The inaugural season has eight episodes.

Prime Video renews Matka King for Season 2
According to Deadline, Matka King has been renewed for a sophomore chapter within a month of the first-season premiere. The outlet reports that the renewal came after the series became India’s most-watched new home-grown scripted show of the last two years on the platform.
Nagraj Popatrao Manjule and Abhay Koranne created Matka King. Its cast includes Vijay Varma (Mirzapur) as Brij Bhatti, Sai Tamhankar as Barkha Bhatti, Kritika Kamra as Gulrukh, Siddharth Jadhav as Dagdu Vichare, Bhupendra Jadawat as Lachu, Bharat Jadhav as Eknath Tumbade, and Jamie Lever as Sulbha.
Additionally, set in the ’60s in India, the plot revolves around Brij Bhatti, an unassuming cotton trader who sets up an illegal betting game called “matka.” Over time, he becomes a powerful kingpin in the city, entering a sector once occupied exclusively by the wealthy.
For Season 1, Matka King received mostly positive reviews from professional critics and currently has a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Jinal Bhatt of Variety India wrote, “With its cards in the proverbial matka, Prime Video’s newest series Matka King, led by Vijay Varma and helmed by Nagraj Popatrao Manjule, appears to be the kind of cotton rags-to-silken-riches story that you would expect it to be.”
While the plot of Matka King Season 2 remains under wraps, Prime Video has provided a statement that sheds some light on what the sophomore chapter might explore. “The game of Matka is far from over, and neither is Brij Bhatti’s reign,” the statement reads. “Matka King Season 2 is where the real stake begins.”
Matka King Season 1 is currently available for streaming on Prime Video. There is no word on when Season 2 might debut.
