Russel T Davies has revealed that he’d want Matt Bomer to play the lead in an American version of his upcoming UK drama Tip Toe.

The new series, which Channel 4 has described as a “tense suburban thriller which challenges everything we consider to be safe”, is set to follow the escalating feud between two longtime neighbours living in Manchester, exploring “the most corrosive forces facing the LGBTQ+ community today”.
British acting legends Alan Cumming (The Traitors US) and David Morrissey (The Walking Dead) lead the cast, with Cumming playing Leo, a bar owner on Canal Street, and Morrissey playing Clive, an electrician, who go from amicable neighbours to deadly enemies as “words become weapons” and “opinions become radicalised”.
Speaking to Deadline about his choice of lead for a potential American version of the show, Davies recently said: “There are actors like Matt Bomer who has always said he has wanted to work with me.”
He continued: “Frankly if he wants to make the American Tip Toe I’d sell it to him for 10 pence. This [radicalisation] is happening worldwide and it’s happening with every minority group to a vast extent, and it’s speeding up.”

Bomer has brought multiple LGBTQ+ stories to our screens in previous years, having starred in 2023’s Fellow Travelers, a McCarthy era-set romance between two men, alongside Jonathan Bailey.
His other notable LGBTQ+ screen roles have included his part as Donald in the 2020 Netflix film adaptation of The Boys in the Band, and his role as Larry Trainor in the DC series Doom Patrol.
Alongside Morrissey and Cumming, the cast of the the UK version of Tip Toe also includes Pooky Quesnel (Moonflower Murders) as Clive’s wife Marie, and Jackson Connor (Masters of the Air) and Joseph Evans (The Map That Leads To You) as their sons, George and Saul.
The cast is rounded out by Elizabeth Berrington (Frauds), Iz Hesketh (Renegade Nell), Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Wednesday), Paul Rhys (Saltburn), Charlie Condou (Doctor Who), Denise Welch (Waterloo Road) and theatre actor Shakeel Kimotho.
