Simon Pegg thriller The Undeclared War is returning to Channel 4 from a long absence, with new episodes to premiere later this month.

The series, which debuted all the way back in June 2022, first explored a cyber attack on the UK by Russia, which throws work experience placement Saara Parvin (Hannah Khalique-Brown) in at the very, very deep end.
The second season of The Undeclared War takes place two years later, promising “a fresh wave of tension and drama as the elite Malware Department at GCHQ grapples with the aftermath of a devastating Russian cyber attack”.
It teases: “Just when it seems the UK has gained the upper hand, Danny [GCHQ boss, played by Pegg] and the team uncover a far more dangerous threat.”
If you’re intrigued to find out what’s in store, the good news is that there isn’t much longer to wait, with the thriller due to return to Channel 4 at 9pm on Tuesday 21 July 2026.

The series was created by Wolf Hall director Peter Kosminsky, who also penned the script for season 1, but those duties were passed on to Colin Teevan (Sky’s Das Boot) for this belated follow-up.
Paul McGuigan (of Sherlock and Inside Man fame) directs all episodes of the new story, which sees Pegg, Khalique-Brown, Alex Jennings (This is Going to Hurt) and Ed Stoppard (The Crown) reprise their roles.

Meanwhile, new recruits include Siân Brooke (Blue Lights) as Danny’s wife, Barbara, Danny Sapani (Black Panther) as GCHQ’s head of security and Chloe Pirrie (The Queen’s Gambit) as Lt Colonel Roz Cavendish.
Executive producer Colin Callendar has promised that season 2 “raises the stakes as it explores the ever-increasing complexities of a world where technology and humanity collide”.
The Undeclared War season 2 premieres on Channel 4 on Tuesday 21 July 2026.
