Varun Dhawan is gearing up for the theatrical release of his upcoming war drama Border 2, and conversations around the film have already picked up momentum online. Amid the online chatter, actor Suniel Shetty has spoken in support of Varun Dhawan, calling out the tendency to judge performances before a film’s release. Addressing the criticism, Shetty urged audiences to wait until they have seen the complete film.

“Has anybody seen the film (Border 2)? Nobody has seen the film. We’ve only seen glimpses. Varun Dhawan will kill it in the film, he’s outstanding. Varun is not playing himself; he is playing a decorated officer who has given his life for the country. I think we should think a little before going out there and saying these things. Today, it’s very easy to trash someone and run them down,” he said.

Last week, Varun Dhawan himself responded to the online trend around his smile during an Instagram Live session. The actor went live while travelling to Karwar Naval Base for Border 2 promotions, accompanied by singer Vishal Mishra. Acknowledging the viral trend, Varun said while greeting Vishal, “I know my smile is trending.” He then recreated the smile on camera and even gave Vishal a playful tutorial, which ended with both of them laughing.

Border 2 features an ensemble cast that includes Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film is directed by Anurag Singh and is scheduled to release in theatres on 23rd January, 2026.

With promotions underway and discussions continuing online, the makers and cast are urging audiences to reserve judgment until the film reaches the big screen.
