Choreographer Terence Lewis recently shared an interesting anecdote about working with Madhuri Dixit, offering a glimpse into the actor’s private life away from the cameras and glamour of stardom. Speaking on I.I.M.U.N.’s podcast Before I Became Me, hosted by Rishabh Shah, Terence reflected on how some of the biggest stars often lead surprisingly simple lives at home.

Terence Lewis reveals what Madhuri Dixit is like at home: “In her house, she’s not the star”

Known for training several actors over the years, Terence said that public perception of celebrities is often very different from who they are in their personal space. Recalling his time with Madhuri Dixit, he described the actress as warm, disciplined, and private. He said, “Madhuri Dixit was the only one who would never talk about her personal life. She was very guarded and quiet, at the same time she was very warm because she used to call me at six am in the morning for her personal training session.”

The choreographer’s remarks highlighted Madhuri’s commitment to fitness and routine, especially at a time when maintaining demanding shooting schedules often required strict discipline. According to Terence, despite her superstar image, it was her grounded personality that left a stronger impression on him. He then went on to describe a memorable moment from visiting her home, where he witnessed a completely different side of the celebrated actor. “Madhuri. She’s making the chai for the full family. And in her house, she’s not the star.”

Terence further recalled how natural and relatable the family dynamic felt to him. He added, “Her mother will come and shout, ‘Ae Madhuri, why have you kept your bed sheet like this?’… For me, it was like, damn, she’s Madhuri Dixit.” The moment, he said, stayed with him because it showed that even one of Indian cinema’s most admired stars remained just another daughter at home. He continued, “This is so amazing knowing such a big star’s mother also yells at her… and Madhuri would warmly look at me with big eyes and ask me if I would join her for tea.”

Madhuri Dixit has long enjoyed a reputation not only for her screen presence and dance legacy, but also for maintaining a balanced family life away from the spotlight. Terence Lewis’ recollection adds to that image, showing the contrast between superstardom and everyday normalcy.
