When The Bear burst on to Disney+ back in 2022, it was met with immediate critical acclaim. The second season was similarly lauded, while the third and fourth runs were met with a more mixed response.
Now, the show has the chance to turn that around and end things on a high, as the fifth and final season of The Bear is about to be released.
Thankfully, it’s a drama ending on its own turns, as Ebraheim star Edwin Lee Gibson has said the finale is “gut-wrenching”, suggesting some sense of closure and catharsis.
Season 4 ended on a somewhat ambiguous note, with the final episode being called Goodbye. It saw Jeremy Allen White’s Carmy making a major decision, one which will no doubt have huge repercussions for the new season.
But what do we now know about season 5 thus far and when can we expect to see the new episodes being released?

Will there be The Bear season 5?
There will! The Bear was officially renewed for season 5 on Tuesday 1st July, just days after season 4 debuted.
FX Chairman John Landgraf said in a statement: “The Bear continues to be a fan favourite worldwide and their response to this season – as seen through incredibly high viewership – has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons.
“Year-in and year-out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast and crew make The Bear one of the best shows on television, and we are excited that they will continue to tell this magnificent story.”
Landgraf had previously said a renewal would totally depend upon creator Christopher Storer’s vision for the show, rather than being based on season 4’s viewership.
He told Variety back in July 2024 that “we really don’t know” whether there will be a season 5, adding that “these decisions are really creative decisions” and “it’s really Chris [Storer’s] decision”.
He continued: “It’s about, how much more story does he have to tell? I mean, obviously, I’m hoping he has more than one more season of story to tell. But not to the extent that if there was one great season or three mediocre ones, I’d rather have one great one. You just have to follow the creative.”
There had been some question about the future of the show following the season 4 finale, which saw Carmy announce his decision to leave his role at The Bear.
Now we know we will be following this storyline onwards, and picking up after Cicero’s clock hit zero, for one final season.

When will The Bear season 5 be released?
The Bear season 5 will officially debut on Disney+ in the UK on Friday 26 June 2026.
This means it is arriving exactly one year after the fourth season debut, meaning the show is finishing out its run by retaining its crown as the most consistently scheduled annual series on TV right now.
After months of speculation, it was officially confirmed in May 2026 that season 5 would be the show’s final run, bringing the acclaimed comedy drama which first debuted in 2022 to an end.
The synopsis for season 5 says that it “picks up the morning after Sydney, Richie and Natalie ‘Sugar’ discover that Carmy has quit the food industry, leaving the restaurant to them.
“With no money, the threat of a sale and a torrential storm in their way, the new partners must band together with the rest of the team to achieve one last service, hoping they’ll finally earn a Michelin star. Ultimately, they learn that what makes a restaurant ‘perfect’ might not be the food, but the people.”
Who will return to star in The Bear season 5?
The central cast of The Bear are all returning for season 5, including Ayo Edebiri as Sydney, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Richie and Abby Elliott as Sugar.
Jeremy Allen White will also be back as Carmy, with the first episode picking up the morning after he announced his decision to step away from the restaurant at the end of season 4.
We could also potentially see returns for characters like Jon Bernthal’s Mikey and Gillian Jacobs’s Tiffany, although they have yet to be confirmed in the case.
