The Dhurandhar franchise is behaving like a rare Bollywood phenomenon. It is refusing to cool down even after doing its box office job. The theatrical run has generated its own trade history, the fan chatter has remained alive, the OTT curiosity is building, and now, Dhurandhar has once again emerged as a Google Trends talking point.

TRENDING: Dhurandhar back on Google trends; what does Jyoti Deshpande’s cryptic Bollywood Hungama statement really mean?
But the biggest spark has come from a statement given exclusively to Bollywood Hungama by Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. She said, “We’re not done with Dhurandhar yet. We’ll hopefully have a surprise for the audience later this year. There’s something up our sleeves.”
For any other film, this could have been dismissed as a routine producer tease. But in the case of Dhurandhar, the line carries weight. This is not a small film looking for post-release visibility. This is a massive franchise that has already become a dominant part of the Hindi box-office conversation. Hence, when the studio backing it says it is not done yet, it is not merely a quote. It is a signal.
So what could the surprise be?
The most obvious guess is a third instalment announcement. The line almost naturally points in that direction. After the success of Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge, the audience would expect the makers to take the universe forward. In today’s market, where every successful big-screen IP is expected to expand, Dhurandhar 3 seems like the safest and most logical reading of Jyoti Deshpande’s hint. In fact, several reports have already interpreted her comment as a possible tease for another chapter. However, we think otherwise.
But the word surprise is interesting. If it were simply a conventional part three, the makers may not have needed to be so cryptic. That opens up a few possibilities.
One possibility is an extended or alternate version of Dhurandhar: The Revenge. We already reported that a Raw and Undekha version of the film is expected to drop internationally on Netflix from May 14 and will be three minutes longer than the theatrical version. If the franchise team wants to keep the brand hot, this could be the first step in a larger rollout strategy. New footage, unseen material, international streaming buzz and then a bigger announcement later in the year.
The second possibility is a spin-off. This would be the more exciting move. The Dhurandhar universe has enough scale and mythology to allow stories beyond the central track. If Jio Studios and Aditya Dhar want to build this as a proper cinematic universe rather than just a sequel chain, a spin-off around a key character, antagonist, mission, or backstory could be a smart way to expand the world without rushing into the next main chapter.
The third possibility is a prequel style expansion. Franchises work best when the audience feels there is history behind what they have seen. A prequel can deepen the mythology, explain motivations and keep the world alive while giving the main star-led sequel more time to develop. If Dhurandhar wants longevity, the makers may not want every instalment to depend only on escalation. They may also want emotional and political depth.
The fourth possibility is a big format announcement around Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar returning together. In a market starved of dependable theatrical event films, a confirmation that the core actor-director combination is intact would itself be enough to send fans into a frenzy. Ranveer Singh has found a franchise zone that suits his high-voltage screen personality. Aditya Dhar has built a canvas where intensity, nationalism, action and emotion can coexist. Their return would be the biggest assurance that the brand is not being diluted.

The fifth possibility is that the surprise is not a film announcement at all, but a franchise activation. A making documentary, a limited theatrical re-release, or a cross-platform content drop. Studios today do not build IP only through films. They build it through carefully timed content bursts. The aim is simple: keep the audience searching, sharing and speculating.
That is why the timing of Jyoti Deshpande’s statement is important. It has arrived when the franchise is still searchable, discussable and commercially alive.
The statement by Jyoti was not made in a generic event quote or a passing red-carpet interaction but to our website Bollywood Hungama. That gives the quote a different kind of positioning. It becomes a trade signal, not just a fan tease.
The larger importance of Jyoti Deshpande’s quote lies in what it says about the new Bollywood playbook. Earlier, producers waited for months before discussing the future of a hit film. Today, the post-release period is itself a marketing window. If the film is still in public conversation, the studio must feed that conversation. Silence can cool a franchise. A well-placed tease can extend its heat.
And Dhurandhar has the heat.
The phrase we’re not done yet works because it carries three messages at once. To the audience, it says: stay excited. To the trade, it says: the franchise has a future. To the industry, it says: Jio Studios sees this as a long-term asset, not a one-time success.
What Jyoti Deshpande has done is open the door without showing the room. And that is exactly why the statement has worked. It gives fans enough to speculate, the trade enough to analyse, and the media enough to chase.
In Bollywood today, that is how a franchise breathes between films.
Dhurandhar may have already delivered at the box office. But if the Google searches, OTT curiosity and Jyoti Deshpande’s exclusive tease are any indication, the real franchise game may only be warming up.
