“Nothing feels weird to you?” “It’s a thick schedule, but I think you just got to power through.” This is cool! Worth a watch for 2 minutes. Actor / comedian John Mulaney is heading on a stand up comedy tour this fall called Mister Whatever. To promote the new tour, which kicks off in Chicago this July, Mulaney cut together an amusing fake trailer. This Mister Whatever faux trailer is an Oscar-bait style trailer (riffing on Moneyball, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, etc) which plays like a movie about a comedian’s overwhelming tour to way too many cities. Good work here! It also reminds me of Bradley Cooper’s actual, real movie from last year called Is This Thing On? about a guy becoming a stand up comedian and how rough the gig can be. Via TMB: “This sharply designed spoof hits every familiar awards-season beat: the solemn dramatic energy, the unraveling protagonist, the tasteful emotional dread, before revealing itself as a sly promo for Mulaney’s nationwide stand-up tour, Mister Whatever.” Yep! Whoever edited this trailer deserves a raise. Great work.
Here’s the official trailer for John Mulaney’s comedy tour Mister Whatever, from Mulaney’s YouTube:

Intro via Netflix: “The series features monologues, guests, pre-taped sketches, musical segments and more. Everybody’s In La, was a six-night live comedy series that explored Los Angeles during the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in 2024. In December 2024, Mulaney starred in the Broadway play ‘All In: Comedy About Love,’ alongside a cast including Fred Armisen, Richard Kind and Renee Elise Goldsberry. Mulaney is currently on the first leg of his newest stand-up tour, John Mulaney: Mister Whatever, performing across North America. Mulaney can next be seen in the Amazon MGM Studios film, Madden, an upcoming American biographical sports drama directed by David O. Russell.” This fake trailer was made to promote the new John Mulaney comedy tour. Mulaney’s Mister Whatever tour begins in July and continues throughout the rest of 2026.
