Jack Draper has pulled out of Wimbledon ahead of his first-round match against sixth seed Taylor Fritz.
Draper v Fritz caught the eye when the draw was made, particularly after the Brit made an impressive return from injury by reaching the semi-finals at Eastbourne.
But the news broke on Monday that the 24-year-old had been forced to withdraw, less than 24 hours after British No.1 Emma Raducanu made the same decision.
“Devastated to share that I have had to withdraw from my first round match due to a recurrence of my arm injury,” he said in a statement.
“There have been a lot of painful moments in the last 12 months but this one is definitely the absolute worst as there is no greater honour for a British player than playing at Wimbledon.
“I will continue to persevere through this. Thank you for the support!”
It’s a massive blow for Draper, who has spent the majority of the past year sidelined and looked in fantastic shape at Eastbourne last week.
