As fans await the now confirmed second season of Yellowstone spin-off Dutton Ranch, it appears it wasn’t all smooth sailing in the first run – at least, that’s the case for Ed Harris.
The Hollywood legend, who plays Everett McKinney in the series, was speaking with Variety, when he revealed that he is signed on for two seasons, but that “midway through the first season I was ready to say ‘Get me the f*** outta here,’ to tell you the truth.”
Harris explained that this was because he didn’t feel he was being used enough, and that he felt “a little bit misled”.
“Prior to signing on for it I was talked quite a bit about what the season was and what my character was gonna do, and that I was one of the four main characters, and that wasn’t really the case,” he explained. “I said, ‘I’m feeling underused and inconsequential. And they kind of went, ‘Oh.'”
Harris said that filming on season 2 is set to start in February 2027, and that he’s “being told that my character will have a little bit more to do”.

“It just was a little frustrating, to tell you the truth,” he continued. “When I watched it, I watched the season, and it’s fine, I thought it was pretty good, and I felt fine about what I did in it, and it seemed like I was relatively important to the story. But the doing of it did not feel that way.”
Harris also explained that “the thing that really p****d me off” was that he was meant to sing in a bar at the end of an episode, and while the moment was filmed it was ultimately cut because it was “too up for the dark ending of that episode”.
“I’m going, ‘F*** you, people,'” Harris said. “That to me was reason enough to say ‘I’m voiding my contract.'”

Dutton Ranch also stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Annette Bening and Finn Little, and has followed Yellowstone favourites Beth and Rip as they moved to start a new life at a ranch in Rio Paloma, South Texas, months after a wildfire destroyed their Montana home.
