Soaps are famed for their complex ‘whodunnit’ storylines, and although once a rarity, there seems to be yet another mystery on the horizon in Emmerdale.

The serial drama will defy linear storytelling once again next week, flashing forwards to a crime scene. When a camera snaps a picture of the victim, we briefly learn their identity. Does someone have blood on their hands?
Police swarm the area the following day, wanting to speak to Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb). It comes after Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) decides to speak to the police about Dr Caitlin Todd’s (Caroline Harker) blackmail.
Elsewhere, Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) has questions about son Kyle Winchester’s (Huey Quinn) relationship with Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), and Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) has questions about her murderous cousin John (Oliver Farnworth).
Meanwhile, Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) returns from Portugal and comes face-to-face with returnee ex-husband Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill).
5 Emmerdale spoilers for next week
1. Police photograph a victim as a new mystery begins
There’s a tantalising glimpse of drama still to come as viewers are transported forward to a major crime scene.
Amid the chaos, a forensic flash illuminates the area and, for a split second, the identity of the victim is revealed.
Has someone met a grim fate, and what shocking chain of events led to the devastating discovery? Could another murder mystery be about to begin?
2. Charity Dingle reports Dr Caitlin Todd to the police for blackmail

Charity takes a significant step when she tells the police that Todd had been blackmailing her. While DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale) agrees to record a statement regarding the serious allegations, she makes it clear that the matter will be investigated separately from the sexual assault case.
The news lands heavily with Charity, who is crushed by the possibility that her disclosure may make little difference to the outcome she desperately wants. Convinced she has failed Sarah (Katie Hill) and fearing Todd could still avoid facing justice for sexual assault, she’s left questioning whether telling the truth was the right decision.

Determined not to let her troubles show, she insists on carrying on as normal and plans to attend Leyla’s christening. However, Mack is far from convinced by her brave front and worries she is struggling far more than she is willing to admit.
3. Serena Sugden has questions about cousin John

Sarah’s suspicions are piqued when Serena casually reveals she knows about John Sugden. The revelation immediately raises questions, leaving her wondering how much her cousin really knows.
Despite her concerns, Sarah’s compassion wins out when she discovers Serena has been sleeping in her car. Unable to ignore her situation, she offers Serena a roof over her head for the night, though inviting her closer could prove risky.
4. Robert Sugden clashes with Kev Townsend

Claudette Anderson (Flo Wilson) is delighted when Kev arrives in the village again, and wastes no time offering him somewhere to stay at Woodbine. As they catch up, Kev opens up to both her and Charles (Kevin Mathurin) about a painful chapter in his life, explaining that Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) wants nothing to do with him after he revealed all about his paternity.
When Kev begins talking about walking away from the situation altogether, Claudette refuses to let him give up. Insisting he is a decent man who deserves the chance to reconnect with his family, she encourages him to keep fighting for a relationship with Lewis.

Later, Robert is pleased when Kev suggests finally moving forward with divorce proceedings, offering hope that one lingering issue can be resolved.
However, he soon finds himself making enemies elsewhere in the village. Tempers flare at the café when Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) catches him filling a bucket in the toilets so he can clean his trailer.
Appalled by his behaviour, she decides she’s had enough and becomes determined to drive him out of the village once and for all.
5. Cain Dingle is confused about Kyle Winchester’s relationship with Graham Foster

A seemingly innocent discovery soon sparks major questions for Cain when Lydia (Karen Blick) tells him that Kyle is in possession of Graham’s watch. Wondering how his son came by it, he starts searching for answers.
The situation takes a dramatic turn when Graham reveals a startling secret – claiming that Kyle was responsible for the fires at Emmerdale Farm.
Cain is left reeling by the accusation and becomes even angrier when he realises Kyle chose to confide in Graham rather than him. Desperate to know whether there is any truth in the claim, Cain confronts his son directly and demands answers.
