The residents of Emmerdale have found themselves in a number of sticky situations over the years, but Charity Dingle’s (Emma Atkins) ongoing turmoil is probably the worst.

While trying to act as surrogate for granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), she had an affair with Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and fell pregnant with his child instead. This now means that Sarah is unknowingly raising her aunt Leyla as her own offspring.
Just the tip of the iceberg, Charity was later blackmailed over the situation and sexually assaulted by fearsome Dr Todd (Caroline Harker). With the threads starting to unravel, confidante Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) fears that Charity has made a grave error in telling husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) the truth.
He’s rapidly spiralling, and decides to seek revenge on Ross. The resulting situation could be deadly!
Meanwhile, eyebrows are raised over newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy), and Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) makes a big decision about dad Kev (Chris Coghill).
Here’s everything happening in Emmerdale in the week commencing 13 July.
8 Emmerdale spoilers for next week
1. Ross Barton takes a tumble during a confrontation with Mackenzie Boyd

Ross agrees to lend Mack a hand with a job on Emmerdale Farm, but it quickly becomes obvious that there’s more to the situation than meets the eye. Keen to discover where they stand, Ross gently probes whether everything is alright between them.
Mack insists there’s no problem, yet his frosty demeanour clearly says otherwise.

As they unload heavy sacks in the barn, long-buried resentment bubbles dangerously close to the surface. Tempers eventually boil over, with the pair grappling on the mezzanine as their bitter confrontation spirals out of control.
Before long, Ross finds himself sent crashing over the edge! Will he be OK?
2. Vanessa Woodfield is questioned by DS Reid about Dr Caitlin Todd

DS Reid arrives on Vanessa’s doorstep with questions about Todd, revealing that a grave accusation has been made against her former partner. Deeply unsettled by the police visit, Vanessa is left searching for answers.
Mack grows increasingly concerned when Charity disappears, prompting him to check in with Vanessa. Little does he realise, she’s actually taken a courageous step forward by attending a support group for rape survivors as she begins the long road towards recovery.

Later, Chas is stunned to discover Charity has confided in Mack about the truth behind Leyla’s parentage. Fearing Sarah could eventually learn the secret, Chas is determined to keep the lid firmly on it.
As the cousins hatch a plan, Charity comes close to revealing the ordeal she’s been hiding – only for the moment to be cut short when Liam arrives alongside a worse-for-wear Mack.
3. Serena Sugden’s secrets unravel and Robert is injured

Serena continues digging into the past, carefully concealing her online research from both Robert and Vanessa. However, when Vanessa alerts Moira to the newcomer’s probing questions about John, a firm warning is dealt – certain truths must never come to light.
Later, Kev suddenly realises exactly where he recognises Serena from and wastes no time filling Robert in, while Aaron’s suspicions about her refuse to fade.

The following day, disaster strikes when Robert is knocked unconscious by a runaway farm trailer while out in the fields. Aaron can’t ignore the fact that Serena just happened to be nearby when it happened, and his doubts only deepen.
Joining forces with mum Chas, he decides to keep a close eye on Serena – with the pair making a discovery that leaves them reeling.
4. Gabby Thomas’s anxieties worsen as her relationship with Billy Fletcher blossoms

Gabby is frustrated when Dawn asks her and Billy to postpone breaking the news of their relationship to the children, although his support over Laurel’s questionable approach to food offers some comfort.
Complications soon arise when Clemmie catches Gabby and Billy sharing a kiss, leading her to confront Dawn. While the youngster appears to take the revelation in her stride, Dawn finds the situation far harder to process.
Later in the week, Gabby’s anxieties surrounding food continue to intensify, culminating in her abruptly taking son Thomas home from a friend’s birthday party after becoming distressed by what she sees on the menu.
5. Lewis Barton gives dad Kev a new opportunity

When Nicola checks in with Ross over their ongoing Kev dilemma, he’s quick to reassure her that the matter has been resolved. Despite his confidence, she can’t shake her concern for Lewis.
It isn’t long before Lewis makes a major decision of his own, leaving Nicola wrong-footed when she discovers that she’s given Kev a job at the caff. As doubts begin to creep in, Lewis is left questioning whether he’s made a serious error of judgement.
6. Caleb Miligan leaves Kerry Pollard in charge of his latest delivery

Their counterfeit goods operation in full swing, Caleb entrusts Kerry with overseeing one of his deliveries, tasking her with working alongside Billy to get the job done.
Can Kerry be trusted?
7. Noah Dingle looks to the future

Could there be an exit on the cards?
Noah drops a bombshell on Mack by revealing he’s seriously thinking about pursuing job opportunities overseas. This couldn’t come at a worse time for the Dingle clan, given Charity’s recent turmoil.
Will Noah leave, or will Mack talk him out of it for his mum’s sake?
8. Jimmy King strikes up a friendship with Manpreet Sharma

Playing hooky from work, Jimmy swaps responsibility for recreation as he sneaks away to enjoy a round of golf with Manpreet.
Although this seems largely insignificant, could it be sowing the seeds for his forthcoming exit storyline?
