Netflix confirmed the release date window of the long-awaited sequel to A Different World, bringing a fresh class of students to the HBCU. The update comes nearly four decades after the original series debuted on NBC.

A Different World sequel to release on Netflix in fall
Netflix confirmed the fall release window on Wednesday, alongside the news that production on the 10-episode season wrapped in Atlanta last month. The revival is about the story of Deborah, the daughter of Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne, as she navigates her freshman year at the historically Black college her parents once attended. Maleah Joi Moon leads the cast, with Jasmine Guy and Kadeem Hardison reprising the roles that made them household names in the late 1980s.
The official logline states that Deborah “finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.” Felicia Pride, whose credits include Bel-Air and Grey’s Anatomy, operated as showrunner and executive producer.
Debbie Allen, who directed 83 episodes of the original series between 1989 and 1993, returns as both director and executive producer. Allen helmed three episodes of A Different World sequel. Additional executive producers include Reggie Rock Bythewood, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Tom Werner, and Mandy Summers.
A Different World sequel brings back most of the original cast. Alongside Guy and Hardison, Darryl M. Bell returns as Ron Johnson and Cree Summer as Freddie Brooks. Karen Malina White and Ajai Sanders reprise their roles as Charmaine Brown and Gina Deveaux.
Charnele Brown returns as Dr. Kimberly Reese Boyer, Jenifer Lewis as Professor Davenport, and Dawnn Lewis as Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor. Lastly, Glynn Turman as Colonel Bradford Taylor, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Lena James.
The incoming class of Hillman students features Alijah Kai Haggins as Rashida, Cornell Young IV as Shaquille, Jordan Aaron Hall as Amir, Kennedi Reece as Hazel, and Chibuikem Uche as Kojo.
Now, fans will have to wait for the release date of the A Different World sequel.
