ABC has officially ordered The Rookie: North for a full series order, having 10 episodes, with plans to expand The Rookie franchise that began in 2018, reports Deadline. The order is from the creator Alexi Hawleyand lead studio Lionsgate Television, and is expected to premiere during the midseason window.
The new ABC spin-off TV show will be led by Jay Ellis (Running Man, All Her Fault) as Alex Holland. It will set up crossover opportunities with the main series featuring Nathan Fillion’s John Nolan, which has a full season order and will premiere in January 2027.
Holland is a man who joins the Pierce County Police Department after a violent home invasion that pushed him to find a new purpose in life. The show will explore policing in challenging circumstances, focusing on urban and rural regions of the Pacific Northwest.
Other cast members on the spin-off series includeChris Sullivan, Karen Fukuhara, Froy Gutierrez, Janet Montgomery, Mya Lowe, and Malik Watson.
Ellis is also the producer on the series, while Hawley serves as the executive producer and writer. Fillion, Mark Gordon, Bill Norcross, and Michelle Chapman are the executive producers.
