We’ve reached the semi-final stage at the Barcelona Open today (Saturday 18 April) – and there are two somewhat unexpected match-ups to look forward to.

British No.1 Cameron Norrie had hoped to make it through to this stage but fell to Spanish teenager Rafael Jódar in his quarter-final tie yesterday.

His conqueror is awarded with a tie against Frenchman Arthur Fils who himself managed an impressive win against Italian No.2 seed Lorenzo Musetti.

Meanwhile, the first semi-final will see fifth seed Andrey Rublev take on Serbian qualifier Hamad Medjedovic – who will be looking to record another big scalp after seeing off Alex Di Minaur earlier in the week.

Holger Rune denied Alcaraz his third successive title last year, beating him in straight sets in the final, but the Dane won’t be back to defend his crown due to injury, while Brit Jack Draper was forced to retire from his first round match due to a knee issue.

Clay court season is now in full swing, with the French Open edging closer, and fans can tune into extensive coverage of all the action from Real Club de Tenis Barcelona.
