“We’re all part of this club that no one wants to be in.” True Brit Entertainment has revealed the official UK trailer for the acclaimed coming-of-age film Sunny Dancer, which is also a terrific cancer comedy worth watching. This opens in UK + Ireland cinemas starting in August and hopefully in the US soon as it deserves to be seen. As if conquering cancer wasn’t hard enough, 17-year-old Ivy’s parents sign her up to spend her summer at what she calls “chemo camp”, where she manages to find unexpected friends and romance in a group of misfits and has a summer she’ll never forget. A beautiful story of a young woman figuring herself out amidst the awfulness of cancer. From director George Jaques – starring Bella Ramsey (from “The Last of Us“), Daniel Quinn-Toye, Neil Patrick Harris, James Norton, Jessica Gunning, Earl Cave, Ruby Stokes, Conrad Khan, and Jasmine Elcock. I’m honored to be quoted in this new trailer from my Berlin Film Festival review a few months ago. I adore this film and I hope it’s a massive success. It’s really one of the indie gem highlights of 2026 so far – watch out for this one when it opens soon. First look below.
Here’s the official UK trailer (+ poster) for George Jaques’ film Sunny Dancer, direct from YouTube:

After 17-year-old Ivy (starring Bella Ramsey) beats cancer she cannot think of anything that’s worse than becoming a Make-A-Wish kid. When her parents send her to a summer camp for kids affected by cancer, Ivy has a hard time adjusting to the rules and fitting in with the other kids. But as the weeks progress, she manages to find unexpected friends in an unlikely group of misfits and has a summer she’ll never forget at “Chemo Camp.” Sunny Dancer is written and directed by young London-based actor / producer / filmmaker George Jaques, making his second feature film now after directing Black Dog previously, plus a few other shorts. Produced by Ken Petrie and George Jaques. Shot on location in Scotland. This first premiered at the 2026 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. True Brit Ent. debuts Jaques’ Sunny Dancer film in UK cinemas starting August 14th, 2026 later this summer. No US release date is set yet – stay tuned. Look any good?
