The Varun Dhawan led Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai directed by David Dhawan has taken a good start at the box office in India. According to very early estimates, the comic caper has collected in the range of Rs. 8.25 crore to Rs. 8.75 crore on Friday, which is above the industry expectations.
The film has collected around Rs. 4.25 crore in the national multiplex chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis – which has contributed around 55 percent to the total business. The non national chains and single screens is where the film has overperformed bringing down the national chain ratio from 60 percent to 55 percent.
The film has set itself up well to score good results over the opening weekend. If it manages to jump by 50 percent on Saturday, it could well be on track to emerge a success story at the box office. The families are expected to come on board in big numbers over the next two days and then it will boil down to the all important Monday test.
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is made on controlled costs, and it needs to hit the Rs. 70 crore mark in India to breakeven, and the start gives the film a solid chance to attain that in the long run.
