Channel 4 have confirmed that the 1966 FIFA World Cup Final In Colour will air on TV and streaming on Saturday 6 June 2026 in aid of Alzheimer’s Society.

It’s been 60 years since England beat West Germany 4-2 at Wembley to get their hands on football’s biggest prize for the first and only time to date. A record UK audience of 32 million watched the final in black and white.
Ahead of the Three Lions’ pursuit of glory in this summer’s World Cup in North America, the final, including the full 90 minutes, extra-time, pitch invasion, and trophy presentation from Queen Elizabeth II, will be rebroadcast in colour.

Channel 4 has partnered with SunLife for the broadcast, which is in aid of Alzheimer’s Society and will feature on-screen calls-to-action at intervals to encourage viewers to donate to help support people living with dementia and their families.
Comedian David Baddiel will introduce the broadcast, with hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst reflecting on the game and the World Cup-winning England team alongside contributions from current Three Lions captain Harry Kane.
FIFA World Cup Final In Colour was commissioned by Channel 4’s commissioning editor for sport, Joe Blake-Turner.
“As we approach a World Cup summer, there’s no better time to relive England’s one and only victory with this special broadcast that will also raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s Society,” said Blake-Turner. “It’s a privilege to feature some of the charity’s ambassadors Sir Geoff Hurst and David Baddiel for such an important cause.”
The broadcast is produced by Whisper – Anton Sensky (producer/director), Harry Allen (producer) and Geoff Riding (producer) – and Final Replay – Colin Hopkins (producer) and Neil Canetty-Clarke (producer).
“This was a deeply personal mission,” said Sensky. “As primary carer for my mother, it was both emotional and cathartic to share this journey with David Baddiel, Sir Geoff Hurst and the Alzheimer’s Society. At Whisper, we tell stories that truly matter, and it was a privilege to partner with Channel 4 on such an important and historic project.”

Michelle Dyson CB, Chief Executive Officer at Alzheimer’s Society, added: “We are so grateful to be part of this collaboration, which will allow people to experience the historic 1966 World Cup final in full colour, while also raising vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society. It’s heartbreaking that many former players – and indeed fans – of the legendary 1966 World Cup team have been affected by dementia.
“Their stories are a powerful reminder of why we must keep raising awareness and the funds needed to support people living with this devastating condition today while also working towards a better future.”
As Thomas Tuchel’s side ready their bid to end 60 years of hurt, the broadcast of the 1966 final should help UK fans get into the World Cup spirit.
FIFA World Cup Final 1966 in Colour will be broadcast on Channel 4, online and on streaming services on Saturday 6 June 2026.
