Germany get their World Cup campaign underway on Sunday evening as the four-time winners face Curaçao in Houston, Texas.
Should Germany, who last lifted the trophy in 2014, win it all this summer, they would go level with Brazil as the most successful sides in World Cup history.
The Germans topped their qualifying group by winning five of their six games and Julian Nagelsmann’s side are the heavy favourites to top Group E ahead of Ecuador, Ivory Coast and Curaçao.
Germany, who will be expecting to pull off a dominant win in their opener, have failed to get out of the group in their last two World Cup appearances in Russia and Qatar.
Curaçao, who are making their World Cup debut, are ranked 82nd in the FIFA rankings and they’re the smallest nation to feature this summer, given their population of around 156,000.
The Caribbean outfit are likely to finish bottom of Group E and it could be a damage limitation brief for Dick Advocaat’s side in their opener against Germany.
